What to expect at your implant consultation in City Name

Image

The Initial Consultation

We will first meet you at our office for a consultation with Dentist Short Name. He will examine your mouth, take x-rays, and determine if you are a good candidate for implants by assessing your oral health needs and jaw bone density. Together, you and Dentist Short Name will decide if dental implants are the best option for restoring your smile, or if another restorative option is needed.

Your Oral Surgery Treatment

Upon approval of your treatment, Dentist Short Name will schedule an oral surgery appointment for you and give you a detailed treatment plan. To begin the procedure, Dentist Short Name will create a small incision in your gum line and place a dental implant into your jaw bone. The implant is a screw-shaped titanium post that bonds directly with your natural bone. In order to begin the healing process, he will clean, disinfect, and close the incision.

Healing & Osseointegration

Once the implants have been placed, your gums will begin to heal immediately. It usually takes less than two weeks for the gums to completely recover from the initial surgery. A process known as “osseointegration” takes between three and six months for the implant to permanently bond with the jaw bone.

Creating the Restoration

Your dental implant will be bonded successfully with your jaw after you visit our City Name office several times during the healing process. As part of the examination, Dentist Short Name will take impressions of your bite, which will then be sent to our trusted dental lab, which will fabricate a custom dental prosthetic for your implant.

Applying the Restoration

When your dental prosthetics are complete, and your implant has bonded with your jaw, you will return for your final appointment. During this visit, Dentist Short Name will finish up the procedure by attaching the restoration to your dental implant, permanently securing it with dental cement or another adhesive.

Maintenance & Aftercare

In addition to good oral hygiene, dental implants don't require any special care. Your dental implant can last you a lifetime with the right oral health habits, so make sure to brush twice a day, floss daily, and visit your City Name dentist every six months for routine cleanings and exams.

Dental Implant Options

Single Tooth Implants

Single tooth implants consist of two primary parts: the titanium post and a dental crown. A crown can be made from a variety of materials, is shaped like a tooth, and attaches to the implant post to complete the restoration. While the site heals, a dental crown is crafted and attached to the implant post via an "abutment." Crowns mirror the look and function of a natural tooth to blend in seamlessly with the rest of your smile. Dental crowns last for decades, while implants can last a lifetime. And unlike a partial denture, a single-tooth implant will never move around or shift in your mouth.
